Why Do I Need This Interlock Machine?

I want to reitereate a post that I have done before because this past week several people have openly asked me the question.  What amazes me is that I had to explain this to a lawyer that was representing someone for the offense of DWI here in Harris County.  When someone provides a breath sample above .15 or is under the legal age to drink alcohol in Texas, 21, the court is required to order the accused to install the interlock machine in the vehicle they will be driving.  Most people get annoyed with this fact because if they are truly presumed to be innocent of these charges why are they required to install such an intrusive machine in their vehicle.  I wholeheartedly agree with that rationale, but that is the way the law is written.  Now that more blood draw cases are being filed in Harris County, Texas some courts are following up after the blood results are obtained by the State to determine if a person is required to have the interlock installed.
